Abbiamo incontrato la giovanissima pro rider inglese Katie Ormerod! Il “nuovo acquisto” del team Bliss ci ha rilasciato qualche dichiarazione in merito alla sua vita ed ai suoi obiettivi!! Dateci un’occhiata!

Abbiamo chiaccherato con Katie la scorsa settimana, e qui in seguito potete vedere anche voi com’è la vita di una pro rider di 14 anni!

Ciao Katie! Sappiamo che hai 14 anni! E possiamo dire che questo è l’inizio della tua carriera da rider …nonostante il numero di sponsor ci possa fare pensare che tu sia già una rider affermata! Uno dei tuoi sponsor è Bliss Level Gloves! Quanti anni avevi quando ti ha contattato il tuo primo sponsor?
Avevo 8 anni quando per la prima volta un park della mia zona, nonché Snozone, ha cominciato a farmi girare gratis ogni qualvolta volevo! Questo sicuramente mi ha aiutato a crescere di livello!

Sappiamo che vivi in Inghilterra! Com’è la sitruazione dello snowboard laggiù? C’è tanta gente che pratica la tua stessa disciplina? E a livello di spot come siete messi?
La scena in Inghilterra è super cool! Ci sono un sacco di riders nel mio paese come mio cugino Jamie Nicholls… è snowboardare qui è fantastico!

Quando hai cominciato a partecipare ai contest? Ti ricordi la tua prima gara?… Sappiamo che sei cresciuta di livello nella stagione passata, dicci un po’ quali sono stati i tuoi migliori risultati!
Il mio primo contest l’ho fatto a 6 anni, e credo di essere arrivata seconda, ma le altre riders erano molto più grandi di me! Ho partecipato al British Championships quando avevo 9 anni e ho vinto 4 medaglie d’oro! La scorsa stagione ho concluso super bene: seconda ai Burton European Open e ho vinto tutto il British Indoor Womens Championships 2011!

Ci potresti consigliare qualche spot in Inghilterra? Dicci anche quali sono gli spot che preferisci sia per allenarti e girare con gli amici che per partecipare ai contest!
Purtroppo non vivo in montagna, anche se mi piacerebbe, ma lo spot più vicino a casa è Castleford- Xscape Snozone, ma di solito giro anche a Halifax dryslope! Di solito io mi alleno e giro con gli amici sempre in questi due posti, perché mi danno entrambi la possibilità sia di allenarmi e di migliorare che di divertirmi!

Tu hai tutte le caratteristiche per diventare una delle migliori rider! Qual è lo spot che preferisci per incrementare sempre i tuoi limiti?
Amo girare in Europa! Tra i posti in cui sono stata, preferisco Laax e Hintertux! Spettacolari… li si che posso alzare il mio livello e superare i miei limiti!

Sappiamo che la tua agenda è ricca di appuntamenti sia per I training che per i contest!! Come riesci ad organizzare il tuo tempo con la scuola, tra i tuoi mille impegni?
Ad essere sincera mi piace andare a scuola! Tutte le persone che mi circondano, a partire dalle maestre mi aiutano molto… tanti compiti da portarmi in viaggio!

Quali sono i tuoi hobbies oltre allo snowboard e ai tuoi impegni scolastici?
Pratico ginnastica artistica! Mi aiuta molto per la mia preparazione fisica nello snowboard!

Quali sono I tuoi obiettivi per questa stagione?
Tra i miei principali obiettivi c’è di nuovo fare podio al Burton European Open sia nello Slopestyle che in Halfpipe! Sicuramente poi mi piacerebbe anche partecipare al Roxy Sno Pro, che sarebbe la mia prima partecipazione a un contest senior!

Cosa pensi della situazione snowboard internazionale e delle alter riders?
Mi piacciono molto e mi trovo molto bene con tutte le ragazze! In particola con Aimee Fuller, viaggiamo un sacco insieme! Ho anche avuto l’opportunità di incontrare il team Roxy, e sono tutte ok! E’ un bellissimo ambiente! E’ anche grazie alle altre riders che posso crescere di livello!

Per concludere, se avessi l’opportunità di ringraziare qualcuno, a chi dedicheresti i tuoi ringraziamenti? Sicuramente vorrei ringraziare molto Roxy e Lesley McKenna che mi hanno dato delle stupende opportunità, Aimee Fuller che si prende cura di me nelle nostre trasferte, e tutti gli altri come Snozone Castleford, Lizzie at Spin Trading e Valentina e Bliss Level Gloves che mi danno sempre i guanti migliori!! …Anche mamma e papà e il mio fratellino che mi vengono sempre a prendere all’aeroporto e non si dimenticano mai di me!

Hi Katie! We know that you are 14 years old! This is the beginning of your career, but you have already a lots of sponsors! One of it, is Bliss Level Gloves! How old were you the first time that you have a sponsor?
I was 8 years old when I first got my Snozone Sponsorship at Castleford Xscape this is my indoor snowdome where I train on a weekly basis. The sponsorship from them means I get to go as often as I like for free – which has really helped with my progression.

We know that currently you are living in England! How is the actual snowboard situation, there? Are there so many spots and so many people which are practicing this kind of activity in your town?
The snowboarding scene is really cool here where I live there are lots of other really good riders that have come from my area including Jamie Nicholls who is my cousin and rides regularly at Castleford Snozone too.

When did you start to take snowboarding seriously? Do you remember your first competition, was it successfully or not? Could you say us what are the best results that you achieved during the past seasons?
I did my first competition when I was 6 years old and think I came 2nd but the riders were a lot older than me so that was cool. I competed in my first British Championships when I was 9 and I won 4 Gold medals in the kids event which really got me hooked. I really loved the scene and made a lot of friends. The last season I had a really good result at the Burton European Open where I came 2nd in the Junior Slopestyle event and won overall British Indoor Womens Championships 2011.

Can you give us some information about the best spots that we could find in England? What are your favorite spots in order to compete and in order to ride with your friends?
Unfortunately, I dont live near a mountain (would love to) so my nearest indoor snowdome is Castleford – Xscape Snozone , I also ride at Halifax dryslope where I practice my kicker skills. On Thursday and Friday Snozone have rails and kickers out where all the freestyle riders can get together and practice their tricks whilst having fun.

You have all the features to become one of the most important riders! Which is the spot that you choose in order to have the daily training and to push your limit up?
I love riding in Europe, from the places I have ridden I would say Laax and Hintertux would be my first choice of daily training as they have really rad parks and pipes that would push my limit up.

We know that your diary is full of competition and training meetings! How are you managing your school time?
I really love my school, my headmaster is really supportive in what I do and my teachers set work for me to take with me on my travels.

What are your main hobbies beside snowboarding and after your school commitments?
My main hobby other than snowboarding is Gymnastics which I train on a regular basis – this also helps with my core strength for snowboarding and all round fitness.

What are the main goals that you want to reach this season 2011.12?
My main goals this season are to podium again at the Junior Burton European Open in both Slopestyle and Halfpipe and compete in the Roxy Sno Pro which would be my first senior international competition along with other comps on the way of course.

What do you think about the other riders and about the international snowboard situation?
I really love the other riders I get to meet, I go on lots of travels with Aimee Fuller who is killing it at the moment and I meet up with the Roxy Team riders, its really great to hang out with such amazing riders and it really makes me want to try new tricks and progress.
